This is us
We are dedicated to upholding good citizenship business principles in every decision and action. We are consistently striving for the highest standards of business integrity and ethics. Our commitment to environmental responsibilities is integral to our success as a corporate citizen.
Attracting, developing, and retaining the best talent is our priority, with a focus on individuals who embody the highest standards of integrity and ethics. Safety is paramount as we work towards achieving zero harm for our employees and contractors.
We are resolute in combating unfair discrimination and promoting opportunities for all our workers. Our business principles are communicated extensively, integrated into contracts, letters of appointment, induction training, and ongoing internal communication with our valued employees.
Health and Safety
We are committed to employee well-being through our longstanding 24-hour occupational health clinic.
Our clinic is managed by a dedicated team, including occupational health practitioners, registered nursing staff, a radiologist, a general practitioner, and full-time paramedics.
Focused on meeting Medical Surveillance requirements, we conduct comprehensive health monitoring, including x-rays, physical examinations, audio assessments, spiro testing, and biological monitoring. Our services extend beyond occupational health, encompassing primary care for minor ailments and chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and epilepsy.
In cases of Injury on duty, our clinic provides prompt and effective treatment. The Wellness Clinic, a vital component, offers diverse services, including HIV testing, counselling, and ARV medication. Additionally, our paramedic response team, available around the clock, ensures a rapid and proficient response to emergencies, ranging from rescues in heights and confined spaces to the treatment of injuries.
Environment
We proudly contribute to one of the world's most sustainable industries: Steel.
Recognizing steel as 100% recyclable, and the most recycled material globally, we actively integrate recycled steel into every new product.
Mindful of the environmental impact and the imperative to conserve finite resources, we exercise control over our resource consumption. Setting targets for natural resource usage, we consistently work towards reducing energy consumption and water use per tonne of steel produced, aiming to achieve year-on-year improvements. Scaw holds ISO 14001:2015 certification, underscoring our commitment to environmental responsibility.
Transparent communication with stakeholders is paramount. At the Union Junction site, Scaw conducts an annual environmental stakeholder forum, inviting local residents, authorities, and councillors to participate. This forum fosters collaboration and ensures that diverse perspectives contribute to our commitment to environmental stewardship.
