04 June 2008 - Purchase of Ozz approved
Ozz increases Scaw’s product range and capacity
On 4 June 2008 the South African Competition Tribunal approved the acquisition of Ozz Industries (Pty) Limited by Scaw South Africa (Pty) Limited. The transfer of shares to Scaw took place on 27 June. Alastair Moffat, the then CEO of Ozz Industries, said, “I believe that this deve-lopment will ensure the successful future of the business of Ozz for the benefit of all Ozz stakeholders and in particular Ozz employees.”
Cast wear parts represent the core business of Ozz Industries (Ozz). Ozz is a South African manufacturer and supplier of crusher and mill consumable cast steel wear parts for industries in Africa, Australia, Europe and North America.
Ozz operates four foundries in South Africa and three distribution centres in Australia. The four operations in South Africa are Eclipse East and Eclipse West (both in Benoni South), the Boksburg operation (also on the east rand), and the Dimbaza operation in the Eastern Cape.
The acquisition of the Ozz group of foundries will not only expand Scaw’s product range but also provide capacity for much needed expansion of certain of Scaw’s existing products and further improve its competitive position against imported products.
These developments present exciting prospects for all concerned and Scaw welcomes its new colleagues from Ozz to the Scaw Metals Group.
