Scaw wins Business Day awards
The Scaw Metals Group was recognised as a top corporate communicator in Business Day’s 2008 Investor Relations Awards held at the Venue in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, on 4 March 2009.
Scaw came first to win the Gold Award in the Corporate Social Responsibility and the Innovative Communication categories for the print advertisement that was produced to publicise Scaw’s BEE deal that gave Izingwe Holdings, Southern Palace Holdings and Shanduka Resources a 21% equity stake in the group. The advertisement, produced by Overend Outsource (the company that revamped Scaw’s website last year), broke from conservative financial print announcements to present information in a more accessible and appealing format.
Investor Relations is about disclosing financial, social and environmental issues and the corporate governance of an organisation and, as such, it forms a critical part of a company’s communications with its stakeholders.
Business Day editor, Peter Bruce (left), handed over two Gold Awards for Scaw’s financial advertising to Belinda Overend, director of Overend Outsource (second left), the agency that designed Scaw’s BEE deal advertisement (below right). With them are Business Day representatives.
