AltaSteel
OVERVIEW
AltaSteel, based in Edmonton, Canada, is a scrap based
mini mill operation with melting and continuous
casting facilities,
a bar rolling mill and a grinding
rod heat-treating facility. AltaSteel produces continuously
cast bloom and billet that are rolled into
rounds, squares, flats and rebar for the manufacturing,
oil, construction, automotive and mining industries,
including bar for Scaw’s forged steel grinding media
operation in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.
AltaSteel is ISO 9001:2000 certified. The steel making shop consists of a 75 tonne ultra high power furnace, a ladle furnace and a three-strand billet boom caster. Billets are rolled into various products, principally rounds of up to 100mm and round edge flats, in carbon and alloy grades. recent capital investment in modern rolling mill technology has resulted in significant productivity and quality enhancements.

AltaSteel has maintained a programme of product development and now supplies all the bar requirements (for forged steel grinding media production) of Moly-Cop Canada, and a range of heat-treated grinding rods to a wide range of local and international mining operations. Bar is also supplied to the manufacturing, oil and construction industries.
