Scaw Metals second Ajax upset forge line at Union Junction, South Africa
The Scaw Metals Group is an international group, manufacturing a diverse range of steel products. With key operations in South Africa, South America, and Australia, and a smaller presence in Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The Scaw Metals Group manufactures the following range of steel products:
- rolled steel (much of which is supplied to Scaw Metal's downstream operations)
- steel and alloy iron castings
- cast alloy iron and forged steel grinding media
- steel wire rope
- strand and wire products
The company supplies products to the following industries:
- global construction
- power generation
- agricultural markets
The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) is the majority shareholder (74%) in the Scaw Metals Group. A Black Economic Empowerment consortium holds 21% and an employee share ownership plan trust holds 5%.
Scaw Metals Group also has a 31% shareholding GSI Lucchini (Italy), and a 50% shareholding in Consolidated Wire Industries (South Africa).
Consolidated Wire Industries (CWI) produces a full range of mild steel wire in both black and galvanised finish. These products undergo further ¬conversion into Diamond Mesh and Veldspan fencing, nails, staples, barbed wire and copper-coated electrode welding wire. Scaw Metals Group has a 50% joint share in this entity.
GSI Lucchini is based in Italy and produces wire rod and cast and forged grinding media. Scaw Metals Group has a 31% shareholding in this operation.
Proacer produces cast steel grinding media in Chile. Scaw Metals is a 50% joint venture partner in this entity.
