Scaw Metals Group Warns Of Bogus Recruiters Targeting Unemployed

Johanesburg, 25 July 2017

Scaw Metals Group, one of South Africa's largest integrated producers of specialty steel products, is warning the public not to fall for a scam on Gumtree on Monday, 24 July 2017, advertising apprenticeship positions at the company.

The company received almost 200 CVs sent to Scaw's info web page in response to the advert. "Scaw's human resources department has not placed such an advert on this medium. In fact, Scaw's current policy is to recruit employees from its Production School or through formal recruitment agencies for senior positions," said Bheka Khumalo, Executive Head of Human Resources at Scaw.

"This is a fake or bogus advertisement when a scammer poses as an employer or recruiter, and offers non-existent jobs.  We urge people not to fall for such scams," said Bheka Khumalo, Executive Head of Human Resources at Scaw.

Scaw is more than a steel company that produces primary steel and secondary steel products used in the mining, construction, oil and gas, power and rail sectors. It has established local operations, a distribution network throughout SA and abroad and employs more than 3500 employees in total.
